Student Competition

 

The Federation of Canadian Demographers organizes a student competition for the best student presentation during the conference. The contest aims at developing communication skills among young scholars as well as to advance knowledge dissemination and mobilization in demography. The following criteria will be considered by the Selection Committee (in order):
- Scientific content;
- Originality;
- Oral performance;
- Quality of supporting material (PowerPoint, etc.).

 

The winner will receive a $500 price and will be strongly encouraged to submit his/her paper for publication in a Canadian journal devoted to demography.

 

Update :

We are pleased to announce that the Student Prize for the best paper presented at the FCD Conference went to Nadine Ouellette, a Ph.D. student in Demography at Université de Montréal. The title of her presentation was: La durée de vie la plus commune des adultes aux XVIIIe et XIXe siècles :
l'expérience des canadiens-français et des suédois. / The modal age at death of adults in the 18th and 19th centuries: French-Canadian and Swedish experiences.

 

The jury was composed of three university preofessors: Roderic Beaujot from the University of Western Ontario, Lisa Dillon from Université de Montréal, and Marc Tremblay from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.
